The Board of Governors is the highest decision making organ of the college. The Board’s role is in Governance and not in Management.  The day-to-day Management of the college is the function of the Director, the Principal and other academic and administrative staff. However, the management of the college is done within the policies and guidelines set and established by the Board of Governors. 

Composition of the Board 

The Board shall comprise of the following persons. 

  1. The Director
  2. The Principal
  3. The Secretary
  4. Four invited professional Governors
  5. Two Teacher Governors
  6. Two Parent Governors
  7. One Student Representative

The Board’s diverse background will provide valuable information at Board meetings. Decisions taken at the Board level are made in the best overall interest of the college and in support of the college’s mission. 

The four professional Governors, two teacher Governors and two Parent Governors shall serve a period of two years and will be eligible to serve another two-year term. The Student Representative shall serve for one academic year. The Parent Governors cease to be members of the Board of Governors when their children have left the school for whatever reason. The Director, Principal and Secretary shall serve continuously. However, in case of a replacement, this shall be done with the Board’s approval. 

The Board shall meet at the beginning of each term (four statutory meetings per year). However, the Board will meet anytime between the term to discuss and resolve important and urgent matters, plan activities of fund raising etc. 

At statutory meetings, the Board will consider the quarterly reports of the various departments i.e. 

 A) Business–CXC, CAT, LCC, AAT

 B) Secretarial – Pitman’s

 C) Information Technology

 D) Corporate Training

Professor Clive Thomas - has had a distinguished career as a university professor and researcher. He has held visiting professorship in Canada, the USA and the West Indies. He is the author of 15 books and research monographs and over 120 academic papers. He has made numerous  presentations at Conferences, Symposia and Seminars.

Professor Thomas's main research interests are in Development Studies, International Development, Finance, Social Sector Economics, and Agriculture.His recent publications on Guyana include the Human Development Report 1996 and the 1999 Guyana Survey of  Living Conditions. He runs a weekly series on Globalization in the Sunday Stabroek.

Professor Thomas was in the 2001 recipient of the George Beckford Award for Distinguished Contribution to Economics. Professor Clive Thomas is currently the Director of the Institute of Development Studies a the University of Guyana.

Mrs. Sheila Chapman-Wong -  is the daughter of a former Mayor of New Amsterdam, Mr. E.A. Chapman. She is an Attorney-At-Law and a mother of three children - two of whom are also qualified lawyers.

Mrs. Chapman-Wong was educated in England where she obtained a Teacher's Certificate in Commercial education. She then went on to pursue a law degree. She is a past president of the Guyana Association of Women Lawyers. Mrs. Chapman - Wong is the President of the Women's Federation for World Peace and has been recognized by Caricom as one of the leaders in Charitable work. Back to top

 

 

 Mrs. Maria Sharma is an example of a young, successful woman. She received her education at St. Margaret's Primary school, Queen's College and the University of Guyana. She holds a Bachelor of School Science degree in Economics and is presently pursuing studies for a post-graduate diploma in Development Studies. She is the president of Rural Woman's Network and is actively engaged in training rural woman around the country in small business management. She is married and the mother of two. Mrs. Eleanor Welch is a member of the full-time staff and Senior Mistress of The Business School.

She studied Sociology and Marketing at the University of Guyana. Before entering the teaching profession, she worked at the Law Court and the National Insurance Scheme. She previously taught at St. Roses's High School. Mrs. Welch now has a total of twenty five years of teaching experience.

Presently she teaches Social Studies and Principles of Business, and is a CXC marker for Principles of Business. She is Married and a mother of two beautiful girls. Back to top

 

Mr. Doodnauth Jagessar  has earned a place as Teacher Governor by virtue of his long and dedicated service to The Business School. Mr. Jagessar has been a part-time lecturer at the Business School for at least six years. He is a full- time teacher and acting Deputy Headmaster at Cummingslodge Secondary School.

Mr. Jagessar obtained his education at the Charity Government School, Anna Regina Multilateral School, Cyril Potter College of Education and the University of Guyana. he has a total of twenty seven years of teaching experience. He is also a CXC Principles of Business Marker. Back to top

 

Mr. Clifford Accra has been giving freely of his time to educate us morally and is a familiar face at our general assemblies on Monday Mornings. Mr. Accra is the father of Lovis Accra of the first form and four others.

Mr. Accra was born in Plaisance on the East Coast of Demerara. his professional studies have been in the area of Architecture. He is a member of the Family Federation for World Peace and does extensive work with schools in moral and family life education. He is presently the Director of Joshua House Children's Centre in  Thomas Street. Back to top
